Ustad Azizul Islam took to playing flute from his childhood days in Rajbari, Bangladesh in 1945. A Captain in a merchant vessel, Ustad Aziz had his first lessons from Late Priyada Ranjan Sen Gupta of Arya Sangeet Samiti, Chittagong, followed by teaching from Ustad Vilayet Ali Khan. His life on sea provided him enough time to hone his skills at Flute playing.
After leaving the sea, he had the privilege of becoming the disciple of Late Ustad Bahadur Khan. He has also received lessons from two famous flutists Late Pandit Devendra Murdeshwar and Pandit V G Karnad. He has given many flute performances in Bangladesh, India, Australia and Singapore and has received many honours and gold medals from various organisations.
