Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma
Pandit Shivkumar Sharma started his career as a vocalist and is a versatile Tabla player as well, having accompanied such stalwarts as Bhimsen Joshi, Ravi Shankar and Begum Akhtar . But his favoured instrument is the Santoor, a Kashmiri folk instrument, on which he plays Hindustani Classical Music. He is credited with single-handedly making the Santoor a popular classical instrument, to the extent that the Santoor and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma are synonymous. He has many achievements and honours to his credit including Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar , the Sangeet Natak Academy Award and the Padma Vibhushan.
Ustad Zakir Hussain Ustad Zakir Hussain is today appreciated both in the field of percussion and as an international musical phenomenon. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have established him as a national treasure and gained him worldwide fame. The favourite accompanist for many of India's greatest classical musicians and dancers, from Ali Akbar Khan and Ravi Shankar to Birju Maharaj and Shivkumar Sharma, his playing is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity. He has received numerous grants and awards, including the Sangeet Natak Academy Award and the Padma Bhushan.
